20120301231AIR DISTRIBUTION FOR AN AIR SEEDER - An air distribution apparatus has a manifold body, and ports defined through walls thereof, with a delivery conduit connected to each port. A port valve is configured to connect and disconnect the delivery conduit to the interior of the manifold body. A supply conduit delivers a product air stream with agricultural products entrained therein to the interior of the manifold body. The supply conduit extends vertically up from the manifold to a curved elbow and then extends horizontally from the elbow. An exhaust orifice is defined in the inner radius of the elbow. When an exhaust valve is open, a selected flow of pressurized air flows from the supply conduit through the exhaust orifice. The port valve and exhaust valve are controlled such that when the port valve closes, the exhaust valve opens. The exhaust air can be directed into the delivery conduits to clear product therefrom.11-29-2012
20110290165Transport Lock for Furrow Opener Assemblies - A furrow opener apparatus attachable to an implement has a trailing arm with a packer wheel at the rear end, and a furrow opener attached forward of the packer wheel. An actuator moves the trailing arm between a lowered operating position and a raised transport position. A latch mechanism engages the implement frame and the trailing arm when the actuator is operated to move the trailing arm to the transport position, preventing the trailing arm from moving downward. A release mechanism moves the latch mechanism to an unlatched position when the actuator is operated to move the trailing arm from the raised transport position to the lowered operating position, allowing the trailing arm to move down from the transport position.12-01-2011
20110282556Depth Adjustment of Trailing Arm Furrow Openers - A furrow opener apparatus has a trailing arm pivotally attached to a seeding implement and extending rearward. A packer wheel is rotatably mounted at a rear end of the trailing arm, and a furrow opener is mounted to the trailing arm forward of, and in alignment with, the packer wheel. A bias element exerts a downward bias force forcing the packer wheel downward against the ground. An actuator is operative to move the packer wheel up and down through a range from a lowest vertical position with respect to the furrow opener to a highest vertical position with respect to the furrow opener. A remote control is operative to activate the actuator from the towing vehicle, and a microprocessor is programmed to adjust all furrow openers on the seeding implement by an equal amount when desired.11-17-2011
20110056418METHOD FOR ADJUSTING AND CONTROLLING PACKING FORCE - A method for controlling a seeding apparatus including sensing a ground force acting on a furrow opener of the seeding apparatus and providing a ground force sensor signal in dependence upon the ground force acting on the furrow opener. The method further includes providing an actuator to apply a bias force to a packer wheel of the seeding apparatus. The method also includes providing a control device operative to receive the ground force sensor signal and an input from an operator and to adjust the bias force that the actuator applies to the packer wheel in dependence on at least one of the ground force sensor signal and the input from the operator.03-10-2011
20100259060Secure Accessory and Ballast System for Vehicles - A system to provide ballast weight and to secure accessories on a vehicle load bed includes a plurality of hollow planks placed on the load bed adjacent to each other with end edges of the planks substantially aligned with each other and with side edges of the planks adjacent to each other such that top surfaces of the planks form a substantially flat load surface. At least one plank includes a filling orifice with a removable cap to allow filling with ballast. Recesses at corners of the planks are configured to form a substantially horizontally oriented lobe on each corner of the planks, and adjacent planks are connected at right and left ends thereof by a clip extending into the corresponding recesses of the adjacent planks, and fastened to the lobes on the adjacent planks. At least one clip is fastened to the load bed.10-14-2010
20090158981Single Disc Furrow Opener with Walking Beam - A furrow opener apparatus has an arm assembly adapted at a front end thereof for pivotal attachment to a seeder frame. A single disc is rotatably attached to the arm assembly about a disc axis at an angle to the travel. A walking beam is pivotally attached to the arm assembly rearward of the disc about a beam axis transverse to the travel direction. A bias element exerts a force on the arm assembly such that a downward bias force is exerted on the walking beam at the beam axis. A packer wheel is rotatably attached at a rear end of the walking beam, and a gauge wheel is rotatably attached at a front end of the walking beam. The gauge wheel is configured to roll along the ground adjacent to the leading face of the disc, and the packer wheel is configured to roll along the furrow.06-25-2009
20090020053METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ADJUSTING AND CONTROLLING PACKING FORCE - A seeding apparatus adapted for being drawn across the ground of an agricultural field by a tractor, comprising at least one frame adapted for engagement with the tractor, at least one seeding unit comprising, a first trailing arm having a proximal end and a distal end, means for securely engaging the proximal end of the first trailing arm with the frame, a furrow opener, means for securely engaging the furrow opener with the first trailing arm proximate the distal end of the first trailing arm, means for sensing the amount of ground force to which the furrow opener is being subjected, means for placing seed in the opened furrow, a second trailing arm having a proximal end and a distal end, means for securely and pivotally engaging the proximal end of the second trailing arm with the frame, a packing wheel in secure engagement with the second trailing arm proximate the distal end of the second trailing arm and adapted to pack the seeded furrow, means for variably biasing the packing wheel toward the ground in communication with the means for sensing the amount of ground force to which the furrow opener is being subjected and means for engaging the at least one seeding unit with the at least one frame wherein information relating to the amount of ground force to which the furrow opener is being subjected is supplied by the sensor to the means for variably biasing the packing wheel toward the ground to control the amount of bias applied to the packing wheel.01-22-2009
20080308025METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SEEDING CANOLA AND FLAX - A method for seeding flax seeds and canola seeds includes: with a plurality of side banding furrow openers, depositing seeds into a corresponding plurality of seed furrows; with each side banding furrow opener, depositing phosphate fertilizer in a corresponding side band in proximity to the seeds in the seed furrows; with a plurality of mid-row banding furrow openers, depositing nitrogen fertilizer, and optionally sulfur fertilizer, in fertilizer furrows where each fertilizer furrow is located substantially midway between adjacent seed furrows. An apparatus for practicing the method is provided as well.12-18-2008
20080308024PARALLEL LINK MOUNTING ARM FOR A FURROW OPENER - A trailing arm furrow opener apparatus includes a furrow opener bracket attached to the rear link of a parallel link assembly such that the furrow opener bracket and furrow opener attached thereto is maintained in a constant fore and aft angular orientation as the assembly moves up and down. A pucker wheel arm is fixed to one of the upper and lower parallel arm members of the parallel link assembly, and extends rearward from the rear link, and a packer wheel is mounted to the packer wheel arm. A bias device exerts a downward force on the assembly. The presentation angle of the furrow opener with respect to the ground is maintained constant while the assembly moves up and down.12-18-2008
