In particular, this invention provides a method of producing a carbon nanotube fragment by the steps of 1) dispersing a carbon nanotube in a mixed acid of sulfuric acid and nitric acid, and 2) subjecting the dispersed carbon nanotube to an oxidation treatment to obtain a dispersion of carbon nanotube fragment in the mixed acid.
