Opposed ends of the bow shape are brought together to extend the extrusion barriers and compress the sealing element. The bow shape is reformed into a teardrop shape that extends radially beyond a pinch location created by relative axial movement of adjacent support members coming closer together. A sealing element extends radially during the deployment of the extrusion barriers and is contained between them. The surface irregularities of the offset petals are distributed through the backing member so that stress concentration locations at the petal transitions between rows are diffused through the backing member to avoid or minimize the tendency of the petals to stress crack at row to row transitions. The backing member is formed from spirally wound strip of sheet material that can be coated to promote relative sliding of overlapping layers. A set of representative data points is obtained that relates the obtained values of the logging parameter to the volumetric parameter by binning the obtained values. A plurality of regression curves are then determined, wherein each regression curve is obtained by adding a random error to the set of representative data points to obtain a set of randomized data points and performing a regression analysis using the set of randomized data points. 20130137610Dual-Functional Breaker for Hybrid Fluids of Viscoelastic Surfactant and Polymer - Incorporating water-based polymer breakers, such as oxidizers, enzymes and/or acids, into a mixture of an oil and oil-soluble surfactants creates an emulsion that can then perform as a dual-functional breaker for reducing the viscosity of hybrid fluids gelled with both a viscoelastic surfactant (VES) and a polymer. The outer phase of the dual-functional breaker emulsion is oil, e.g. a mineral oil, containing an oil-soluble surfactant that will, over time and with heat, break the VES portion of the gel. As it does so, the polymer breaker in the internal aqueous phase will be released to then break the polymer portion of the gel. The polymer breaker will not start to break the polymer gel before the oil-soluble surfactant starts to break the VES gel. The overall breaking using the emulsion is slower as compared to introducing the polymer breaker and the oil-soluble surfactant in a non-emulsified form.05-30-2013

The use of the multiple phase composition allows for a microemulsion, a miniemulsion, or a nanoemulsion to form in situ downhole at a controllable time. The method includes pumping the multiple phase composition comprising an additive into the wellbore. The multiple phase composition may be broken thereby releasing the additive. The broken multiple phase composition and the additive may contact the OBM filter cake particles to form an in situ emulsion selected from the group consisting of a nanoemulsion, a miniemulsion, a microemulsion, a multiple emulsion, a water-continuous emulsion and mixtures thereof. The in situ emulsion may incorporate more of the external oil from the OBM filter cake in order to more easily remove the OBM filter cake.05-30-2013
20130133879Debris Barrier for Packer Setting Sleeve - An annular seal for a setting tool in a packer tieback extension comprises a downhole oriented packer cup assembly. As the tool is run in the hole the packer cup flexes as the rising hydrostatic pressure equalizes across the cup into what started as a zone with atmospheric pressure inside the packer tieback extension. Once the pressure is equalized the self energizing feature of the packer cup maintains grit and debris in the mud from entering the tieback extension where the spring loaded dogs of the setting tool are held in a retracted position. If the seal fails to equalize and allows a large differential across the setting sleeve from the surrounding annulus, the rupture disc breaks inwardly into the tieback extension so that pressure is equalized. If the packer is never set after being lowered to depth and the pressure from the tieback extension is equalized into the annulus.05-30-2013

An axial passage directs the pressure surge created with the landing of the ball on the seat to the port with the actuation piston for the tool. The surge in pressure operates the actuation piston to set the tool, which is preferably a packer. In an alternative embodiment raising the circulation rate through a constriction in a circulation sub breaks a shear device and allows the restriction to shift to cover a circulation port.
