20130329834 | Feed-Forward Carrier Phase Recovery for Optical Communications - The carrier phase of a carrier wave modulated with information symbols is recovered with a multi-stage, feed-forward carrier phase recovery method. A series of digital signals corresponding to the information signals is received. For each digital signal, a coarse phase recovery is performed to determine a first phase angle which provides a first best estimate of the information symbol corresponding to the digital signal. Using the first best estimate as input, a second stage of estimation is then performed to determine a second phase angle which provides an improved (second) best estimate of the information symbol. Additional stages of estimation can be performed. The multi-stage, feed-forward carrier phase recovery method retains the same linewidth tolerance as a single-stage full blind phase search method; however, the required computational power is substantially reduced. The multi-stage, feed-forward carrier phase recovery method is highly efficient for M-QAM optical signals. | 12-12-2013 |
20120179467 | USER INTENTION BASED ON N-BEST LIST OF RECOGNITION HYPOTHESES FOR UTTERANCES IN A DIALOG - Disclosed herein are systems, computer-implemented methods, and tangible computer-readable media for using alternate recognition hypotheses to improve whole-dialog understanding accuracy. The method includes receiving an utterance as part of a user dialog, generating an N-best list of recognition hypotheses for the user dialog turn, selecting an underlying user intention based on a belief distribution across the generated N-best list and at least one contextually similar N-best list, and responding to the user based on the selected underlying user intention. Selecting an intention can further be based on confidence scores associated with recognition hypotheses in the generated N-best lists, and also on the probability of a user's action given their underlying intention. A belief or cumulative confidence score can be assigned to each inferred user intention. | 07-12-2012 |
20120002025 | METHOD FOR DETECTING A VIEWING APPARATUS - A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a method for detecting a viewing apparatus, and causing a presentation device to present a media program in a time division multiplexed (TDM) scheme or a space division multiplexing (SDM) scheme responsive to said detection, wherein the viewing apparatus is configured to the TDM or SDM schemes to enable viewing of the media program. Other embodiments are disclosed and contemplated. | 01-05-2012 |
20110296466 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MULTI-NETWORK PROGRAM RETRIEVAL - A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, network device having a controller programmed to transmit requests on a primary network for a program recording corresponding to a program on at least one of the plurality of Electronic Program Guides (EPGs) where the EPGs are retrieved from a plurality of network sources including a plurality of remote network sources unaffiliated with the primary network and receive the requested program recording. Other embodiments are disclosed. | 12-01-2011 |
20110067049 | VIEWING CONTROL MANAGEMENT ACROSS MULTIPLE ACCESS POINTS - A method and system for controlling viewing of multimedia content includes collecting viewing control profiles and associated viewing control passwords via an Internet-protocol television portal, a web portal, and a mobile portal. The viewing control profile may be usable to restrict access to certain multimedia programs. The viewing control may be applied using a unified storefront application, providing access to multimedia content via the Internet-protocol television portal, the web portal, and the mobile portal, to offer and provide controlled access to the multimedia assets. | 03-17-2011 |
20090007131 | Automating the Life Cycle of a Distributed Computing Application - A system for automating the life cycle of a software application is provided. The software application utilizes computing resources distributed over a network. A representative system includes creating logic operable to create a task list which describes how at least one stage in the application life cycle is to be performed, and processing logic responsive to the creating logic, operable to process the task list to perform at least one stage in the application life cycle. The processing logic is integrated with a development environment, and the development environment is used to develop the software application. | 01-01-2009 |
