20160118214 | COLD FIELD ELECTRON EMITTERS BASED ON SILICON CARBIDE STRUCTURES - A cold cathode field emission electron source capable of emission at levels comparable to thermal sources is described. Emission in excess of 6 A/cm | 04-28-2016 |
20140070085 | Spinning Cell Device for Fast Standardization in Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry - A spinning cell device is described for fast and convenient standardization and analysis of constituents and isotopes in solid samples by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma (LA-ICP) spectrometry. The method and apparatus for performing he method require the sample under test and a standard to be spun during ablation allowing the quasi-simultaneous ablation of both materials. The aerosols resulting from the ablation of sample and standard are mixed in the ablation cell allowing quantification of the ablated metals by the method of standard addition or isotope dilution. The relative proportion of standard verses sample ablated can be changed by altering the trajectory of the laser beam. The ablated aerosol is swept into an inductively coupled plasma by a carrier gas and analyzed by mass spectrometry. | 03-13-2014 |
20130212750 | ZERO THERMAL EXPANSION, LOW HEAT TRANSFER, VARIABLE TEMPERATURE SAMPLE ASSEMBLY FOR PROBE MICROSCOPY - A variable temperature assembly for scanning probe microscopy (SPM) is described which minimizes or eliminates motion of the sample caused by the thermal expansion or contraction of the sample holder assembly and platform/scanning stage on which the assembly is mounted, and minimizes heating or cooling of the platform/stage. In heater form, the variable temperature assembly includes a thin boron nitride puck with one or more high-resistivity wires embedded along an underside of the puck. The puck is suspended from its polished top surface by posts that are secured to the microscope stage. All thermal expansion of the puck occurs in the downward direction, away from the SPM probe-sample interface, thus eliminating relative motion between the probe tip and sample surface. The top surface of the puck remains stationary as a result of the unique geometry of the posts and the puck-post attachment configuration described herein. | 08-15-2013 |
20130187532 | COLD FIELD ELECTRON EMITTERS BASED ON SILICON CARBIDE STRUCTURES - A cold cathode field emission electron source capable of emission at levels comparable to thermal sources is described. Emission in excess of 6 A/cm | 07-25-2013 |
20130068621 | DIELECTROPHORETIC CELL CAPTURE - Various aspects are described for selectivity capturing cells or bioparticles on designated surfaces in dielectrophoretic systems and processes. A particular adhesive composition is described for enhancing cell retention. In addition, certain permeable polyester membranes used in the systems and processes are also described. | 03-21-2013 |
20100122907 | SINGLE MOLECULE MASS OR SIZE SPECTROMETRY IN SOLUTION USING A SOLITARY NANOPORE - A nanopore conductance measurement method and system is provided. The system has reservoirs of conductive fluid separated by a resistive barrier, which is perforated by a single nanometer scale pore commensurate in size with an analyte molecule in at least one of the reservoirs. The system is configured to have an ionic current driven across the reservoirs by an applied potential and the pore may be treated so that the pore surface can form associations with the analyte molecules of interest to increase the analyte molecule residence times on or in the pore. The system also comprises a means of measuring the ionic current, which current may be either direct or alternating in time, induced by an applied potential between electrodes in the conductive fluid, on each side of the barrier. The system also comprises a means of recording the ionic current time course as a time series, which includes time periods when the pore is unobstructed and also in periods when analyte molecules cause pulses of reduced conductance. The method comprises methods to delineate segments of the conductance time series into regions statistically consistent with the unobstructed pore conductance level, and pulses of reduced conductance, and also statistically stationary segments within individual pulses of reduced conductance. The method may also provide steps for interpreting the statistical analysis to yield parameters such as size, mass, and/or concentration of at least one type of analyte in solution. | 05-20-2010 |
20100110426 | METHOD FOR NRB-FREE NONLINEAR VIBRATIONAL SPECTROSCOPY AND MISCROSCOPY - Methods and systems are described for suppressing nonresonant background in broadband coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy and spectroscopy. The methods and systems improve sensitivity and signal to noise ratio in CARS. | 05-06-2010 |
20090043042 | Covalently Immobilized Fluorinated Carboxylic Acid Stationary Phase For Liquid Chromatography - A stationary phase for a liquid chromatograph and process for making is provided. The stationary phase material may have a modified base substrate and a fluorinated carboxylic acid covalently bonded thereto through an amide or ester bond. The stationary phase may have a substantially consistent shape selectivity characteristic with an α | 02-12-2009 |
