Through the use of a mouse model of DS, the Ts65Dn mouse, we disclose evidence herein that 5-HT 6 receptor antagonists may alleviate the cognitive deficits observed in human subjects suffering from DS. Species within the claimed genus of 5-HT6 receptor antagonists restored the cognitive function of Ts65Dn mice almost to the level of control mice as demonstrated by an improved ability to differentiate between a familiar object in a familiar location and a novel object in a novel location.
