Abstract:
The invention is a hand held ironing board apparatus.Claims:
1. A hand held ironing board comprising: a board having a front surface
that is essentially flat, a perimeter shape with a surface, and a rear
surface; an appendage or appendages, for single hand operation, mounted
to said rear surface of said board,
2. The hand held ironing board as claimed in claim 1, wherein said appendage is a handle.
3. The hand held ironing board as claimed in claim 1, wherein said appendage is a heat resistant glove-like apparatus.
Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a hand-held ironing board used to iron garments.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART
[0002] Generally, a garment is ironed on a flat surface using a hot dry, wet, or steam iron to remove wrinkles. Normally, the flat surface utilized is a tradition ironing board that requires floor space or a board hung on a vertical surface such as a door. The garments are laid on the board allowing the garments to be ironed during use.
[0003] However, the traditional ironing boards suffer from a number of disadvantages. Traditional ironing boards require the use of valuable floor space that must not necessary be utilized. Vertical hanging ironing boards require an object such as a door to support the board. The floor space and objects to support the vertical boards are not always available.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0004] It is an object of the present invention to provide a hand-held ironing board apparatus to assist a person in ironing a garment without the use of additional floor space required by traditional ironing boards or objects to hang vertical ironing boards.
[0005] This and other objectives are achieved by the present invention, which, in a broad aspect, provides an apparatus that allows the user to hold the ironing board in one hand and iron with a hot, dry, or steam iron in the other hand.
[0006] The inventions consist of a flat surface with a handle coupled to it. The iron operator is able to hold the flat surface in one hand via the handle and operate the iron with the other hand.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0007] The hand held ironing board has a front surface that is essentially flat, a perimeter shape, and a rear surface. In the preferred embodiment the board is shaped as a rectangle. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the board could be any shape, including but not limited to an oval, ellipse or circle, without departing from the scope of the invention. It is important that the board has an adequate surface area to support a garment, and not be too cumbersome to hold. The preferred board surface area is between 1 and 10 square feet. The preferred material of the is a heat resistant material that is able to work without resulting in damage from the heat of an iron. Examples of materials included plastic, wood, metal, and other heat resistant materials.
[0008] The handle allows the operator to hold the board without the need of a traditional ironing board. The handle consists of a first end, second end, and a perimeter profile. The handle may have any shape, including rectangular, oval, or ellipse, as long as it can be held by a hand. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the handle could be any shape without departing from the scope of the invention.
