Hypoglycemia - Symptoms






Symptoms differ somewhat depending on the type of hypoglycemia that occurs. In the case of drug-induced hypoglycemia, the symptoms may resemble those of extreme shock. They include:

  • Cold, pale skin
  • Numbness around the mouth
  • Anxiety
  • Palpitations (irregular heartbeat)

  • Dilated (enlarged) pupils
  • Sweating
  • Fainting

Idiopathic hypoglycemia is often characterized by milder symptoms, such as:

  • Extreme tiredness
  • Loss of alertness
  • Loss of muscular strength and coordination
  • Headache
  • Double vision
  • Staggering or inability to walk
  • A craving for salt or sweets
  • Allergies
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Inflammation of the skin
  • Pain in the neck and shoulders
  • Memory problems
  • Excessive sweating
