Hypoglycemia - Symptoms
Symptoms differ somewhat depending on the type of hypoglycemia that occurs. In the case of drug-induced hypoglycemia, the symptoms may resemble those of extreme shock. They include:
- Cold, pale skin
- Numbness around the mouth
- Anxiety
- Palpitations (irregular heartbeat)
- Emotional outbursts
- Hand tremors (shaking)
- Mental confusion
- Dilated (enlarged) pupils
- Sweating
- Fainting
Idiopathic hypoglycemia is often characterized by milder symptoms, such as:
- Extreme tiredness
- Loss of alertness
- Loss of muscular strength and coordination
- Headache
- Double vision
- Staggering or inability to walk
- A craving for salt or sweets
- Allergies
- Ringing in the ears
- Inflammation of the skin
- Pain in the neck and shoulders
- Memory problems
- Excessive sweating
