The Urinogenital System and the Kidneys - The kidneys and blood pressure

A surprising insight into the critical role played by our kidneys in almost every body function is provided by the relation of blood pressure to kidney function. The blood in the glomerular capillaries must be at higher pressure than the fluid around them, so that the fluid and its dissolved substances can push through the capillary membranes toward Bowman's capsule. If blood pressure in the body falls too low (severe hypotension ) the formation of urine ceases.

On the other hand, if a portion of the kidney is suffering from anemia due to some disorder, kidney cells secrete pressor hormones , which serve to elevate the blood pressure. Thus high blood pressure ( hypertension ) may be a sign of kidney disorder.
