Yes, it would be a Good Thing for web pages in general.

That would be an excellent idea, Al. In talking with Kent he'd mentioned
it as well, and I really couldn't begin to tell you how wonderful that
would be. I realize it would not be implemented by all web page creators
and would probably not be as clean as if they were done by professional
catalogers, but it's most definitely an improvement (and a big leap toward
the concept of the WWW as being searchable). I don't know if the W3C team
has resident librarians, but I would be more than happy to help directly,
or to refer them to others.
