Files are also stored in their newsgroups' directories, so someone
looking for a FAQ about, say, Italian newsgroups could look in
ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet/it.news.gruppi/
and find the file there too.

The rtfm.mit.edu archive supported WAIS full-text searching for a
while, but the load was too heavy and it was disabled. However,
several other archives still support searching, including (according
to our records)
http://www.faqs.org/faqs/search.html
and
http://www.cs.ruu.nl/cgi-bin/faqwais

Finally, if somebody wants to do this, why not just use the Keywords:
header?
