I agree. But I also feel that the HTML version is so much easier to read
(since I have dozens of internal section links, boldface, italics, etc.)
I update my FAQ
<http://www.videodiscovery.com/vdyweb/dvd/dvfaq.html> a few times
a week, so I want the process to be as easy as possible. Since I can
keep the Web version up to date, I keep the FAQ in HTML format (and edit
it with the wonderful BBEdit on the Mac). When it comes time to post it I
simply save as text from Netscape, which wraps the lines, indents the
lists, etc.
I agree with the suggestion of spelling out links for the ASCII version and
putting them in anchor tags for the HTML version:
More info at <A HREF="link.com"><link.com></A>.
I do this for the most useful links, the others that I have in the HTML
version without explicit text links get stripped out:
see section <A HREF="#1.5">1.5</A>
becomes
see section 1.5.
This all works very well with a minimum of fuss come posting time.
