I'd like to make a small point. It's possible to post a FAQ only to
those newsgroups where it is _most_ relevant and post separate a notice
to other newsgroups where it is of interest ("The Foobar FAQ has been
posted to soc.culture.foo, comp.os.foo, soc.answers, comp.answers and
news.anwers. You can also obtain it by mail, ftp or ... by following
these instructions ..."). Obviously the notice would be crossposted (I
suppose in groups of five if this is necessary to ensure propogation).
I can think of at least on FAQ for which I would appreciate a notice in
the newsgroup I read most often (the ISO-8859 FAQ, already crossposted
to more newsgroups than you'd care to mention...).

Oh, by the way, I have my newsreader set to kill crossposts to more
than four newsgroups for certain newsgroups. It's worth it to miss the
witless trolls and similar junk I'd have to read otherwise.

Regards,
-christian
