I believe you can find someone in the newsgroup you contributed to and
ask him/her to take care of the maintaining job. You can grant him/her
all the rights about it, or even authorize him/her to write a new one
based on what you have done.

Such a person should not be too difficult to find (if so, it implies
the newsgroup is not worth your time to contribute to).
