Speaking of size limits, I had an annoying experience. As many
of you know, I am the co-author of the famed and beloved
treatise commonly referred to as the Hosaphone(tm) FAQ. :-) Its
first posting (as a draft) was set in advance by the authors
for April 1st. While my co-author was out of town I was left
with the task of posting. Posting it to USENET newsgroups went
over just fine since it was only 42k. Then I posted it to two
internet mailing lists that both use MAJORDOMO. I waited and
waited, and it never appeared. No message was sent back to me
or anything. Against my wishes to make extra work for the
readers, I split the document in two and re-posted it. This
time it made it through. It seems the default limit for
message sizes in MAJORDOMO which I believe is called maxlength
or something like that is 40k. Nothing in the info about the
mailing lists that use MAJORDOMO has this as info about posting
guidelines. The most annoying part is I didn't get an error
message or anything from either one of them when I tried to
post the entire thing as one 42k FAQ.
