Yes. See, most all developed countries are parties to the Berne convention,
under which all creative works are copyrighted by default. The only
way a work can be not copyrighted is by explicit statement by the author.
That established, there are certain things that one knows will happen to
their posts when they go out on Usenet (hence the uslessness of the
.sig notices claiming that any distribution over MSN is prohibited
and subject to large fines. They're funny, but useless -- because,
when you post to Usenet, you *know* they're going to be redistributed
over MSN. By the same token, you *know* that someone's is very likely
to be archiving them.)
