In the interval between submission and posting, the scripts have moved to a
new (and permanent) location:

By a happy coincidence, at this exact moment the latter server is mis-
configured and the new URL does not work. I do expect a fix shortly, so
please try again in a day or two. Sorry for the confusion.
I should note that I've made a few minor changes since the original posting,
so anyone who got a copy after seeing the announcement on faq-maintainers
might want to get another, and that the scripts have run unattended
periodically over the last two months without trouble, so the part about
"guaranteed to brim with errors" is perhaps not as true as it was. They're
still undocumented, but the cover page and the other scripts which can be
reached from it will provide some context. I still welcome comments and
suggestions.
