I really don't see how this would fix anything. Sure, it takes it out of
the *.answers groups, maybe (unless the vote works out so that the FAQ
that gets legitimized is the very type of one you'd be trying to keep
out). But it doesn't stop the readers of the group -- many of whom may
not have looked in *.answers for the FAQ -- from seeing it.

Besides which it creates a whole bunch of work for someone (or some
various someones).

I really think the "answer" -- or, at least -an- answer -- is to just
note the alternate FAQs in one's "legitimate" FAQ, with a short summary
of the feud or whatever, and let the readers make up their minds who
they're going to believe.

And frankly, if this ever becomes the "approved" method for getting a FAQ
approved for *.answers, I guess I'll just drop my FAQ from *.answers,
rather than trying to get the mostly-anonymous folks on my newsgroup to
go vote in some big FAQ election.
