Probably not, as far as the law is concerned. (At least in the U.S. --
Almost every country other than the U.S. has stronger laws in this
regard.) There is at least one court (I think the second circuit) has held
that whether the source is acknowledged can be considered as one factor in
determining whether a use is a fair use. But that's the exception. For
the most part, copyright law is totally unconcerned with giving credit
where it's due.
Law aside, it's pretty sleazy not to acknowledge contributions of others.
