In the desire to avoid "crisis management" and try to tackle potential
problems before they occur, I will begin a regular posting on
rec.arts.bodyart called the "Purple Pages Directory." It will be
similar to a white pages directory--listing professionals in the
bodyart industry who are online.
Since we are unmoderated, technically *anyone* can post an "ad" to
their tattoo/body piercing shop. However I am asking them to agree to
certain conditions before their shop listing is allowed in the
directory (primarily that they won't post ads, will response via email
to serious queries, etc.). Basically, it'll keep the noise down,
provide one easy file for readers looking for resources, and it also
promotes the newsgroup to other pros who aren't yet online.
The feedback from both pros as well as regular posters has been
immensely positive. The pros are real excited to be listed as an email
contact, and feel a sense of obligation to act responsibly now.
Instead of shunning them altogether, we have decided to embrace them
as a resource.
The first posting will go out this week sometime.
