I would like to emphasize that, too. He's asking.
In fact, please note that anyone can respond with a
counter-offer, as Pat did. The guy said (admitted) that he is
doing this for a (meager) living, so it's not surprising that
he's more professional than casual about it.
By that I mean ... well, look at it. He asks you to respond to
his email with a registered air mail package, and puts in lots
of legalese that buries hidden stuff you'd not want to give him
(like the right to alter the faq - yes that is in there). But he
also says he'll accept an email back, and provides the
opportunity to continue talking.
This is just his first offer, it looks -- he sounds like he wants to
negotiate from there to something more reasonable.
The fact that most of us might not want to spend time negotiating
with him, well that is an inconvenience for him, and us.
But, my suggestion? Just send back your terms (including not
altering it in any way, as Pat said) and see if he responds. If
he agrees to something more reasonable, we'd all win.
I'd rather do business with a guy who asks first, rather than
others we can think of. (The "your faq's on our CD now, but
we'll take it off future releases if you write back" folks.)
