I do most of my maintaining offline (on a DOS PC) and I maintain my FAQ
in HTML, then use my own HTML->text converter that's 100% automatic and
can be called from a batchfile. It preserves the layout as it would have
looked when browsed using Netscape and supports all lists, formatting
and so on. The output from this utility is then posted. I think this is
even more nerdy, writing my own program to handle things! ;-)
If any of you are interested in this converter (for DOS!), let me know
and you may have a copy of the executable. Be warned, it only handles a
small subset of HTML-tags that I myself use in my FAQ. It can easily be
expanded if needed though - but I felt no reason to do that when it was
for myself and I didn't need it.
