I worked at Oxford until I emigrated about a year ago. The problem
is the link between the UK and North America. This is VERY slow.
(It gets faster at the weekend when nobody is using it, which is not
terribly helpful.)

Oxford University as an FDDI internal network which has high bandwidth,
as does JANET the UK national network. I don't recall what the
Radcliffe Library's server is, but it will be fast.
