You can download it at ftp://ftp.gsf.de/pub/mue/www/faqconv.
This script will create a table of contents complete with local
links, format and number section and chapter headers, and
concatenate hyphenations (if a line ends with a lowercase letter
and a hyphen, the following line will be appended and the hyphen
discarded).
faqconv will also sense URLs and convert them to links.
I also use faqconv to produce the posted version, since it is
nice to have the table of contents and chapter numbers generated
automagically.
Since my FAQ is in German, I want to use German umlauts in the
HTML version, but not in the posted version. So I use the HTML
convention for umlauts ("ü" for u with umlaut) in my FAQ
source file, and use faqconv to change "ü" to "ue" etc. in
the posted version.
I also have some ASCII art in my FAQ. I include these between
<pre> and </pre> statements for the HTML version, and faqconv
will discard all lines starting with "<" and ending with ">" for
the ASCII version.
faqconv is a quick-and-dirty shell script for sh and ksh (I don't
know about bash and tcsh, but it won't run on csh), using grep, sed
and awk.
You are free to share and use it at your own risk and discretion.
