Can we cross the "Take an FAQ author out to lunch" thread with this one?
Clearly there's a series of games that we can play that will have a
positive impact on how well this stuff works. To wit.

1. When should I convert to WWW ?

Convert to WWW once someone has bought you lunch for your FAQ.
Until then, keep working at it. If no one buys you lunch,
forget it, and move on to something else.

2. How long after conversion should I maintain a parallel FAQ form ?

Continue to maintain a parallel FAQ form so long as you still think
people will buy you lunch as a result of your posting. If you are
no longer getting lunch invitations, stop posting in FAQ format.

3. How can you keep the useful properties of the FAQ format, such
as distribution, archiving, and periodic invitations to lunch,
in a WWW universe?

Enroll your FAQ in a lunch club, where you can give a lunch credit
to someone whose work you like, and where lunch credits are somewhat
transferable. (Not as transferable as cash, but more transferable
than BART cards in DC.) Viz. First Virtual, DigiCash, etc., all
of which could be adapted to the task with some modest amount of
effort.

4. What, if anything, is the function of such well-fed luminaries
such as tale, jik, and the pathetically overworked and undersubsidized
rtfm, in a world where the primary rendezvous point is mostly
pointers to good places to do lunch?

Someone has to keep the restaurant lists.

5. OK, so we put together this whole system, and accumulate a
surplus of lunch credits over time. How will we possibly
consume enough lunches in enough locations to make this work?

Lots of perfectly edible food goes to waste each day when
restaurants and caterers make too much, and when edible food
reaches its expiration date in supermarkets. Organizations like
Food Gatherers (see gopher://gopher.msen.com/11/causes/fgs)
in Ann Arbor, MI, and food banks all over the place, help gather
up usable food and deliver it to people who need it. If your
FAQ accumulates a surplus of lunch invitations, turn some
of those into lunch for someone else.
