Well, perhaps I could plug Linuxdoc-SGML...
Linuxdoc-SGML is a set of tools that I threw together to allow you to
generate LaTeX, plain ASCII, and HTML from a single SGML source. It's
based heavily on the QWERTZ DTD and things culled from a few other places.
It's not quite complete yet; the next version will have some tweaks to make
the ASCII output look nicer, and so forth. Soon I intend to add texinfo
as a target format.
If you'd like to check it out, it's on ftp.cs.cornell.edu in pub/mdw.
This system is being used for a number of the Linux "HOWTO" documents
(hence the name) but is in no way Linux-specific. The package contains
complete documentation.
If you'd like to see examples of documents produced by Linuxdoc-SGML
take a look at ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/other-formats.
And the URL http://sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/linux.html, which has pointers
to the HTML-formatted HOWTOs.
Linuxdoc-SGML isn't perfect, but it allows me to automatically format
a large number of documents, completely hands-off, in several formats.
The HOWTO writers send me the SGML source, I drop it into my tree,
and issue "make". Other systems may do a better job at formatting but
probably require more human interaction.
