I guess I've had better luck than you. I get a few messages of thanks
a week for my FAQs (most recently yours :-) and about the same number of
suggestions or corrections. I've also seen the incidence of certain FAQs
decrease markedly in my newsgroups.

I suspect you're on the extreme end of this phenomenom since they're so many
people who use C but aren't interested in following a newsgroup about it.

I guess we've got different personalities. I much prefer to get
INTELLIGENT nitpicking and corrections than vague messages
of thanks. Of course about half the criticism I get of my FAQ
is either wrong or something I considered and already rejected.
Still it's generally more interseting than, "Thanks, you did a great job."
Of course I also have the satisfaction of the extra income, free
software and new contacts my FAQ lists have pulled in.
