| 3. Whether we do (2) or not, in the next few days, we should either

| This would be a Bad Thing, IMHO.
Yes, indeed, it would be just that.
Standard forms may be worthwhile - hell, my faq's all follow the same
format, and, if memory serves, that format was suggested _here_, but another
subscriber. I liked the format so much I re-wrote the Auschwitz FAQ, which
was then nearly complete, and put the next three together the same way.
I tell you this to make two things clear:
First, my complete lack of interest in any further work on existing FAQ's,
beyond maintenance and additions, and my opposition to any attempt to
enforce standards upon faq maintainers.
Second, my appreciation of the work being done to provide non-ASCII flavours
for those who _want_ them. (A member of my research list is working on a
Mac-based hypertext version of the Holocaust FAQ's now, but _he_ is the
chappie doing the work - I just can't get enthused about re-editing close to
two hundred pages of text, when that text is quite easy to read just as it
is, but it interests me as a long-line research project.)
I'd go with the suggestion that the "newer, better, faster" bunch create a
private list, and report to us plebes and klutzes from time to time on the
tools they may have created for us... sparing the commercials, of course :-)
As to the arguments pro and con adopting any "standard" whatsoever, I think
it would be nice if they'd move out of this list, and into a public
newsgroup, where they can be readily ignored by ornery ol' dinosaurs like
me....
