Vietnamese Communist (VC) and Pathet Lao (PL) continued their attacks against Meo forces located near Sam Neua and the Plain of Jars during the reporting period. Attacks consisted mainly of the shelling of Meo positions with mortar and artillery fire. Ambushes of Meo patrols were also reported during the same period.

The First and Fourth Kachln Rifles were transferred to the Kachin State in late August for action against tbensurgents. The Burma Army's plan reportedly is to contain the KIA movement by isolating them in the Sinlum areahus far the Army forces have avoided major engagements with the KIA, firing back only In self defense, but have kept the pressure on to force the KIA to retreat to the remote areas of Sinlum.
