2. There have bean2 flights (with8 engines installed) devoted to Kit oh number extension. Those flights have accumulatedours and haveuch number60 foot. (See attachments i'i and Comparing thio Kach number with these hours8 averape Hach mimber increase per flight hour. Pllcht test practice limits each extension flight to0 Mach miKber above the previous flight for general safety and aircraft stability investigation reasons. In addition to this limitation, the following list presents three areas of existing tecluiical problems which are recopnlaod as theormally encountered and which require some time and offort for their resolution therebya delaying influence;

aircraft/engine airflow natchlnt can beduring2 flight vitb tvo fully8 enginesand with fully automatic operating aircraft inlets. The firstall of the above requlreosnta wasf aircraft rl21July. Inter-related factors involved in this matching profcuen areroughness and drag, inlet controls, ejector, engine rotor speedtemperature, main fuel oontrol, and air flow distribution and Vflth the exception of aircraft roughness about which littleat this time, these factors areell defined byand substantially improved by corrective actions.

problems involve fuel and hydraulic leaks,warnings and malfunctions of instrumentation, drag chute,stability system and the inertial navigational system. Theseuncommon to other prograico yet theyelaying influence.

o. o problems involve aft.srburner liners, afterburner flaneholdsrs, plumbing, excessive oil consumption and investig-'tion and establishment of inflifht relight capability. These again are not uncommon to other programs. Corrective Actions are underway and prelioilnary interim fixes have bean expedited to the test site. Thsy are not now holding up the program but because in several instances engine removals have beena delaying Influence was inflicted, final resolution of the oil consraei>tion and afterburner liner problem*ursued concurrently in the Pratt and Whitney developtwnt pro^traic in Florida.
