ilot was captured north of HAIPHONG City in6 and was taken through the cityrison located on the waterfront (XJource was on leave in HAIPHONG at the time and watched aa the small security convoy passed by. Thery and tossed rocks and other objects at the Jeep in whioh the pilot vas riding. His guards hunched down to keep from being hit them3elv3s, but thoy did nothing to protoct tho pilot or calm ths people. Because of the angry mood of the poople. Source and several other NVA soldiers who were standing among the people were drafted by security police to help quiet the mobs.

Source caughtursory glance of the pilot and did not see enough to describe him. The pilot waselmet and kept his arms looked in front of his face to protect himself from further injury. Souroe observed that his face was cut, swollen, and appeared to have been beaten.

The vehicles traveled dcwn the road on the waterfront, and Source followed behind. The Jeep stopped at an old prison located there, and the pilot was taken ln. The security guard who asked him to help with the crowd told Source that the pilot would be kept there awhile, interrogated and later transferred to another fr.son. Source believed that all pilots captured in the HAIPHONG area vere taken first to this prison, but he did not have any facts to subotanttato this.
