Tho group had stopped toestaurant. The prisoner appeared to be in good health and was doscribed as having light colorod hair, white skin, heavy sot andeters tall. Source waa unaware of the circumstances of_capture and assumed that the truck came froa NAM DINH Province and was headed for HANOI.

The truck carrying tne prisoner and five or six NVA guards had stopped near the local PHU LT City Police Station wnere two or three NVN local policemen weie picked up before the rr upestaurant. The restaurant waa approximately one-half kilometer frira the PHU LY City market on the east side of an eight-meter wide asphalt roadesidential section nsar the police station. Tho unmarked military four-wheel truck waa dark green andsnvas cover over tne rear portLin. When tne prisoner stepped down from tiiewd bef.an to surround him, but the peopleaway from the prisoner toany possible harm to the man. The guards carried no weapons and permitted the prisoner, who was not tied in any way to enter the restaurant ln front of them. The guards rppenred friendly towards the POW althoughs no conversation between them nor was there any conversation between the local populace and the American.

Source had not heard of air- Vietnamese civilians being kept in VC or NVA detention camps with captured Allied military POW'e nor had he heard of rewards beinr offered for assisting Allied prisoners to escape.
