The lull in hostile activity continued throughout the nonth of January. An increase in enemy action during the upcoming TLT holidays is not unexpected, however. Three isolated Instances of explosive charges being thrown at ailltary vehicles were reported in the last week of the nonth.

Two Southern Air Transport flights transited Danang within the reporting period. Both were ferry departures and created little difficulty.

The Director of Danang Customs haa tentatively approved the loading and offloading of cargo on international flights transiting thla station, but this authorisation contained several qualifications. These are being studied in sgnetermination will be nmdc as to the feasibility of utilising this authority.

CUSTOMER DELATIONS

Ho problems were encountered in this area during the month. LEGAL

intention to renew the lease on themps furnished to the landlord of this property, tnererore Ihe present contract will expireebruary. There should be no difficulty in vacating these premises by tho required time.

Alternative hostel arrangements continue under discussion and should be finalized by the end of February. No significant problems arc expected in the interim duo to not having the above hootel available.

FACILITIES

Plans to renovate the CSD shipping and receiving warehouseassenger terminal and flight operations office arc progressingeasonable rate. Preliminary blueprints have been made and it appears funding by CCuDS, Region I, should notroblem. However, no target date to commence work has been established.

Dual HF antennas were hoisted into place onanuary and were madethe same day. The eighty foot antenna mast project can now be considered complete.

The contractor who submitted the lowest bid in April for the completion of the concrete paying snd drainage ditch project has stated that be would still assune the Job at the sane price if awarded. Status of this project is pending higher echelon company approval.

The normal complement of ROM aircraft at this station will be reduced early in February. Oueeduction in scheduled flight service between SGN snd DAD,7 ROn will be eliminated, Rsqulrsnsnts for twoB and two VTB aircraft should continue.

COMMUNICATIONS

Sone Improvement in HP reception was reported by other stations sines the Installation of the new HF tranaaltting antennas, but interference problems continue to be experienced when receiving SCM signals.

The In coning ringing problem on tne station telephones was eliminated, all four linee sre now completely usable. The twoines ring in Operations, and the twoinen ring in Traffic.

There are still three such personnel who do not have an extension of stay and wnose tacporsry passes have expired. Special approval baa been requested from VNAF Security to permit these employees to enter the baae until tho support documents for their permanent paas applications can be obtained.
