Mexico: New President Foresees Good Relations with the US

The Mexican presidential successionDecember holds promise for another good era ol US-Mexican relations.

Incoming President Luis Echeverria's strong but realistic nationalism giveslearof the overwhelming importance of the United States to Mexico, and he clearly intends this "special relationship" to be an asset ratherroblem. Echeverria considers his meeting with President Nixon thisotal success and he believes that now that he hasood personal friendship with the US President he can pursue Mexico's Interests in bilateral affairs with full vigor.
