POLAND: Appeal by the Church
After conferring for two days, Polish bishops yesterday condemned the violenttr.iLions, called for the release of internees, and Indirectly urged that talks be renewed between the government and Solidarity. They later met privately with Kazimierz Barcikowski, the senior Party official responsible for Church affairs. Meanwhile, the authorities acknowledged that at least seven cities again are under curfew at night. Bj
The bishops probably reiterated to "the Church's positionialogue between the regime and the people is the only way to resolve the crisis. The authorities may have repeated their argument that national recovery cannot occur without public order and discipline.
