Onrote the Central Intelligence Agency asking for information pertaining to the World War II record of Kurt Waldheim, at that time Secretary General of the United Nations. Onrederick P. Hitz in CIA's Office of Legislative Counsel replied that CIA had "no-

intelligence reporting in detail on Waldheim's military service." Mr. Hitz went on to report that Mr.ischarged from military duties after being wounded, and implied that2 until the end of the war Mr. Waldheim was engaged in legal studies or other civilian activities.
Of course we now know that Mc. Waldheim continued to serve on active duty until the end of the war.
I understand that earlier this year the CIA acknowledgedof an OSS report on Mr. Waldheim dated April ind this information both surprising and distressinggiven me0 that no such reporting
I would appreciate your sendingopy of5 report. If it remains classified, please inform me the reaaon for ita continued classification forty-two years after ita creation.
ould appreciate an explanation as toas(given erroneous information0as informed that no reporting on Mr. Waldheim's wartime service existed.'
