The Honorable Fred Thompson United States Senate.

Dear Senator Thompson:

Please accept my thanks for your kind remarks about the Central Intelligence Agency's transformation of its support and administrative services. Your worda of encouragement last week at the Bxcellence in Government Conference wore well received by the number of CIA officers in the audience who have been working hard over the paat two years to bring about these changes.

I would be pleased to offerriefing on thia issue by my Deputy Director for Administration, Dick Calder. If you could find the time innowery busyould like toisit out here to the George Sush Center for intelligence so that you can see some of these changes first hand. I, of course, recognize that your schedule may notrip here, now Dick would be available to present this briefing to you in

your office. Please let roe know if either of these options work for you.

In any case, let me again express my gratitude for your comments about the Agency. m proud of what we have achieved thus far and, while it has not alwaysmooth transition (nonenow that the transformation we are undertaking in support services represent both "good

government" in the broad sense and the more effective uae of resources in executing the Agency's intelligence mission.
