Sinoe therioting in1 ths CounMunists have softened their overt campaign for insadiate action In tho political field, but they have forged ahead In the labor movement,ln forming, under ths guidance of Vicente LOKBASDO Toladano and Louisentral labor organisation comprising almost all ths unions In tha country. The Ccamnmlst newspaper Ootobro Ls published regularly and circulates freely. It has devoted Its columns to anti-United Statesand to trying to sggravats the United Fruit Coapany's labor troubles. Ths Guatemalan Coatsunlsts are small in number, but their Influence in both govornaont and labor Is substantial,

Antl-Coismimlat Aotlrltlss

The Antl-Communlst Party of Guatemala has been formed sinoe the July rioting and has received strong support from the Catholic middle class snd froa ths Indians. The university students have furnished leadership toubstanoial bloc la the Party. They have requested President Arbens to dismiss the Cooaunlsta holding positions in the Government, and to sxpell all foreign Communists. The movement continues to develop in all sections of ths country.

Politioal Situation

President ARBSNZ has shown no sign of changing the policy sat by AREVALO as regards Goanunisn. He has stated his opposition to the anti-Cormtmnlst movement. Easdro ORDONEZ Paniagua, laftist Uixdstsr of Oovernnmnt, haa recently resigned snd been replaced by Ricardo OHAVEZ Nacknsn. CHAVEZ In generally regarded as an anti-Connunlst. fiovavmr,2 he announced that ths govsrnnmnt had decided to ban all anti-Communist Colonel PAZ Tajada, mho had studiously avoided attending all Oamninlst rallies, but mho mas forced to attend the last one as theof President ARBENZ, has been replaced as Minister ofby Colonel Carlos ALDANA Sandoval, an Arbens supporter. PAZ Tejada has been placed In charge of the construction of the highway to tho Atlantic.
