isited Senator Styles Bridges, Coalman of the Senate Appropriations Cecalttea, inapitol Building, In connection with the transfer of certain funds from the CIA Fiscal5 Reserve to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Upon completion of this particular discussion. Senator Bridges raised the question as to what the Central Intelligence Agency vas doing In the area generally affected by the Project which we know aa PBSUCCESS. He said that herowing feeling on Capitol Rill, aa well aa around the country, that we must not allow this Communist threat to develop in our own backyard. He further stated that this matter had come up recently ln meetings of the Senate Appropriations and Armed Services Committeea and that it had also been raised this morning at the White House meeting for Congressional Leaders. esponded by saying that thisatter of gravest concern to ua,ouldn't say anything, but that he ahould not worry. laborated slightly by adding that this situation bad recslved sad continued to receive policyon the highest levels- lso pointed out that of course any action taken by CIA in situations of this kind must necessarily be consonant with our policy. mphasised to Senator Bridges that this was an extremely delicate situationery difficult one to handle but

that through military aid to neighboring countriea and other meansthat everything was being done that could properly be done tosituation.
