Let me hasten to addm entirely in sympathy with the course taken up to now. In my judgment, you could not have done less than you did and the steps you took were taken with discretion. We have no argument.
I think the time has come, however, for us to pursue the matter. It is fair neither to the individual nor to The Times nor, indeed, to you to leave any resolvable doubt unresolved. There should be no question about theof any member of our news or editorial staff. To date, there have been two instances, not including the present one, where the issue has been raised. In onead denial which convinced me; in the other, admission of early association but an attestation of reform years ago. Both men are now at work on The Timesave the utmost confidence in them.
I mention tliis only to show you that the problem is not new tom prepared to examine and then to take the risks of judgment. When can we get together and pursue the matter?
