SUBJECT: Briefing of Mr.6
The third intelligence briefing of Mr. Stevenson took place onctober, at the Sheraton-Park Hotel, Washington. It lasted.
Contrary to previous practice, Mr. Stevenson interrupted his reading of the prepared briefing on the Suez situation (the first article) with questions and returned to this subject again after he had read the other articles in the briefing. He read the article on SovietPolicy with marked deliberatenoas and studiedecond time before the session ended. But he asked no questions about Soviet disarmament policy.
Exceptew questions about Chou-En Lai's forthcoming tour, the status of the Slno-Buraese dispute, and the opposition in hostto American overseas bases, Mr. Stevenson's questions were all on tho Sueznearly all of its International complications and most of its local relations. He seemed particularly interested In the legal aspects of Nasr's position and in Nasr'a ability to maintain his government against economic sanctions.
ii. Mr. Stevenson does not expect to be in Washington again before tho election and asked if he might have his next briefing in Chicago sometime in the early part of next week. Mr. Blair will telephone us several days in advance to fix the time and place.
