The Honorable Paul c. Wellstone United States0 University Avenue, West Court International Building St. Paul, Minnesota 5
Attention: Paul Audette
Dear Senator Wellstone:
This is in response to your letter of
your constituent, ontacted your office on an American Ursuline nun who was abducted and tortured in Guatemalae requested that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) make "the entirety of their documents related to the case of Sister Dianna available to the public."
As you may know,6 the CIApecial search relating to Sister Dianna, reviewed all responsive documents located during that search, and released all document portions that could be declassified. Some documents and portions of documents were determined to be classified, and so were not released. ister Dianna brought litigation against the CIA and other US Government agencies for the release of information initially withheld. Inhis case was dismissed with prejudice. We believe, and the courts have upheld, that no further documents are releasable to Sister Dianna.
I regret that we cannot be more helpful in this matter. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to call. Thank you for writing on behalf of your constituent.
