p73 is regulated by tyrosine kinase c-Abl in the apoptic response to DNA damage

Article Abstract:

Immunoblotting anti-c-Abl immunoprecipitates from COS7 cells with anti-p73 makes it possible to establish whether the tyrosine kinase c-Abl interacts with p73. It was shown that c-Abl stimulates p73-mediated transactivation and apoptosis. This research supports a model in which c-Abl regulates the p53-related p73 protein to induce DNA-damage-mediated apoptosis. p73 is phosphorylated by a c-Abl-dependent mechanism in the DNA-damage response.

Oxidative DNA damage through long-range electron transfer

Article Abstract:

Oxidative DNA damage through long-range electron transfer depends upon the oxidation potential and pie-stacking of heterocyclic base pairs, but is independent of the molecular distance. The oxidative damage can be facilitated from a remote area due to hole migration of charge through the DNA double helix pie-stack. Photo-oxidation is found to be intramolecular and independent of diffusible species.
