Article Abstract:
The two regions encircling the Earth within which energetic particles are caught inside the Earth's magnetic field are the Van Allen radiation belts. Wave acceleration can increase the electron flux by more than three orders of magnitude and could also be important for Jupiter, Saturn and other objects of astrophysics with magnetic fields.
