Article Abstract:
Research indicates that genetic diversity in the endangered North Atlantic right whale has not changed significantly since the late 19th century. Findings were based on DNA data obtained from historical right whale museum specimens from 1885-1910, and the findings suggest that conservation measures in place since 1935 have helped protect the species' genetic diversity.

Article Abstract:
A discussion is presented on possible errors generated by the inclusion of data from different freshwater mussel taxa in calculating protection status based on genetic information. It is suggested that sample sizes should be sufficiently large, and that the selected mtDNA gene should be less conserved.

The authors argue that species with allozyme genotypes containing the same alleles can be treated similarly when calculations for conservation efforts are made using genetic data.
