The world's oldest spears

Article Abstract:

Three complete and well-preserved throwing-spears estimated to be around 380,000 to 400,000 years old were discovered in a coal mine in Schoningen, Germany. The discovery proves that these tools were used to hunt large mammals during the Lower Paleolithic period. The heaviness of the spears suggests that they were used by large, powerfully built people, while their sophistication indicates a considerable investment of time and skill. The discovery also offers valuable insights into the earliest colonization of Europe by hominids.

An Asian perspective on early human dispersal from Africa

Article Abstract:

The identification of east Africa as the 'core' area for the genus Homo as well as tool making seems secure to most palaeoanthropologists, and the attempts at modelling early hominin dispersals start implicitly from the assumption that Homo ergaster originated in east Africa and then, dispersed across Asia. The epansion of H. ergaster across Asia in the Early Pleistocene remains an assumption even if it is routinely treated as a historical fact.

Life on the Costa del Cromer

Article Abstract:

Human occupation of Europe is studied using glacial deposits in the Cromer forest-bed, from Eastern England, also the finds from Pakfield reveals the understanding of human occupation of Europe. Chronology shows that the climate was balmy, and the environment was a home to a wide range of animals and plants.
