Self-organized patchiness in asthma as a prelude to catastrophic shifts
Article Abstract:
Experimental evidence in which the bronchoconstriction leads to patchiness in lung ventilation is presented in case of asthma. The observations obtained by using positron emission tornography shows that bronchoconstricted asthmatics develop regions of poorly ventilated lung.

Catastrophic ape decline in western equatorial Africa
Article Abstract:
The survey results, which indicate the decrease in ape populations in Gabon, are presented. This decrease in numbers is due to the commercial hunting, facilitated by the rapid expansion of mechanized logging.
