Article Abstract:
East Pacific Rise seismic, thermal and chemical time-series data from high temperature vents at nine degrees 50.2' N have been studied to link a microearthquake swarm with measured changes in vent fluids. Temperature increases were observed, peaking at the vent 11 days following the swarm, gradually declining to just over pre-swarm levels. This concurs with the Bio9 hydrothermal system.

Article Abstract:
The discovery in Galapagos Islands of black smoker chimneys, hypothermal vents which are underwater fissures where superheated water bubbles out of the sea floor, allows for the possibility of the chimneys being home or a pathway to unique animal species. Galapagos Islands are the focus of this underwater mystery, which is not surprising, considering the size of the ocean.
