Rapid communication: nucleotide sequence of ovine mitochondrial genes for tRNA glycine and cytochrome c-oxidase subunit III

Article Abstract:

An analysis of a sequence of mitochondrial DNA extracted from sheep liver tissue revealed a significant percentage of similarity with bovine and equine homologues. However, some of the nucleotide positions were polymorphic in another sheep of the same breed. The structural variation in some mitochondrial genes could be the basis for the cytoplasmic effects on the performance characteristics of farm animals that were linked to mitochondrial DNA polymorphisms.

Partial clone and sequence of an ovine glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase cDNA

Article Abstract:

The nucleotide sequence of ovine glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPD) partial cDNA and deduced amino acid sequence of the protein are described. At the carboxyl-terminal end of the 335 amino acid protein, 184 amino acids were encoded by the partial cDNA. Given the ubiquitous expression of GAPD, the primers and cDNA sequence of the protein will be of use in standardizing expression of other genes.
