Rapid climate variability in the North Pacific Ocean during the past 95,000 years

Article Abstract:

There is a resemblance in the oxygen isotope record of the GRIP Greenland ice core and ice-rafted detritus (IRD) found in the North Pacific Ocean, suggesting that the climatic changes in the circum-Atlantic region over the last 95,000 years were a circumpolar occurrence. The IRD sediment cores were analyzed using a Gamma Ray Attenuation Porosity Evaluator. This discovery provides firm evidence of a circumpolar climate system but does not indicate whether climatic links were through the ocean or air temperature fluctuations.

The climate researches claim that the uncertainty in climate change models can be reduced via utilization of the desktop computers' spare power. The scientists hope to generate better predictions of future climate via running thousands of Earth's atmosphere models on office and home computers.
